HUNGER STRIKE BY WALSH. MELBOURNE, July 25. Thomas Walsh, secretary of tlie Seamen's Union, now undergoing three months' imprisonment, has started a hunger etrilse. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SEAMEN. BALLOT ON ARBITRATION DESIRED. ADELAIDE, July 25. The Seamen's Federation has passed a resolution favouring a further ballot on the question of arbitration. If tlie results favour arbitration the federation -will not enter tho court until the officials now in gaol axe released. ACTION BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.' EFFORT TO SECURE CONFERENCE. MELBOURNE, Juljy 25. (Received July 25, at 11.5 p.m.) The Federal Government has decided to approach the shipowners with a view to _ calling a conference conccrning tho strike. Union circles believe that a settlement is imminent. SHORTAGE OF GROCERIES. NEW ZEALAND ORDERS NOT FILLED. SYDNEY, July 25. (Received July 25, at 11.5 p.m.) There is a great shortage in the grocery markets owing to the strike. New Zealand orders, especially for tea, are not being filled. TWO ALTERNATIVES. Ho said: "Wo stand between two alternatives, and certainly the present system cannot con tin tie. We must have_ eithor moralisation and Christianisation of industrialism or eomo form of Bolshevism, which will destroy any possible hope of reconstruction on a truo and firm basis.- I would again urge upon tho Church the duty of studying this industrial problem without prejudice and with a real desire to mako somo contribution to a pressing and difficolt problem which threatens to rob tho world of the blessiiwr of peace. '
