. TRADE POSSIBILITIES. INVESTIGATIONS IN PROGRESS. LONDON, July 23. (Received July 24, at 8.15 p.m.) In the House of Commons Mr Amery (Under-secretary for the Colonies) stated that the Government's Trade Commissioners were investigating trade openings in mandate territories, and added that he ■understood that the terms of the mandate for territories under the dominions were being discussed on the basis of equality of trade for all nations.—A. and N.Z. Cable. DISCUSSION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. QUESTION OF PREFERENTIAL . TRADE. LONDON, July 23. (Received JuJy 24, at 10.35 p.m.) In the House of Commons on the third reading of the Finance Bill the Independent Liberals denounced the application of preference to the mandate territories. Mr Chamberlain said that nothing in the Bill committed the House to Imperial preference in the mandate territories. There "was no intention of doing anything inconsistent with the mandates. The Bill merely empowered the Government to apply preference by Order-in-Council, which could be rejected by either House. There Was no intention of securing a selfish advantage or acting contrary to the spirit oi the League of Nations.
