MISSING PRISONERS
LONG LIST FOUND IN HUN WAR OFFICE. Inquiries made by British officers in Germany havo disclosed a long list of names ™ ™ P nsone " °l war the German War Office records that havo never been officially reported to the British Govern ment. The explanation offered by German oincials :e that these aro men who were captured severely wounded and died before reaching a. prisoners' camp. They wore reported by the German military co m manders in tho field, but not by the prison camp commandants, for inclusion in the lists of prisoners. The War Office, acting through tho Central Prisoners of War Committee, is conducting an inquiry, and tho full Ksts in the possession of tho German War Office aro being examined. But there is a strong feeling, in view of tho large number of pathetic inquiries still beinir received from relatives of 'missing" men, that this inquiry should bo of a. moro soarching- character and that every effort should be made to find tho last resting'-places at least of thoso whose names are now boing discovered in the German lists. There ie, un'iappily, no mason to hop© that any of these men are still alivo. Si\ months have passed since tho armistice, and there is no doubt that every Jiving' prisoner has reported.
