Burgess, who is well known in New Zealand, has been awarded the American Distinguished Service Medal. Brigadier-general Burgess took the American Artillery into action for tho first time on Independence Day last year. Colonel George Barclay, who has crowned a lengthy and valuable service with the Volunteer and Territorial Forces of New Zealand by a period of over four years on active sorvice, is, with Mrs Barclay, who was for. some time engaged in war: work in England, making a stay in Dunedin. Mr J. W. Hardy, head master of Caversliam School, who has been acting as- temporary inspector in this district since Dr Don's death, has been appointed to the Auckland inspectorate. The Rev. A. C. Randerson has terminated his engagement- as assistant minister oi St Andrew's, Dunedin, his resignation taking elfect at the same time as that of Dr Waddell. Mr Randerson will take the services at the Hanover Street Baptitet Church until the arrival at the end of August of the Rev. Knowles Kempton, who will succeed the Rev. R. S. Gray. On Thursday, the 18th inst., a large number of residents of Clarksville and surrounding districts met at Mr D. Hamilton's residence to wish Mr and Mrs Hamilton good-bye 011 their leaving,tho district. The chair was occupied by- Mr T. Moir, and after a lengthy programme of music, songs, and recitations, Iv£r James Loclchart presented to Mr Hamilton a suit caso and to Mrs Hamilton a travelling- rug, and in doing so expressed the appreciation in which they were held by their neighbours, and wished them a happy and prosperous, future. Captain Roland Fulton, R. A.M.C., who has been serving as regimental i medical officer in the Imperial Army in French and Belgian Flanders since June, 1915, is expected to return to New Zealand next month by the Friedridhsruhe. Captain Fulton, who is the New Zealand University travelling medical scholar for 1915-14-, has been attached to tho 13th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment for nearly all the timo he has been on active service, and it was for his work in that regiment on the Ypres salient in 1917 that he received the Belgian Croix de Guerre. The New Zealand University in 1915 granted his request that his scholarship remain in abeyance during his "war service,'* so that under his agreement with them he must return to London for further study a%er a few weeks furlough in New Zealand. Captain Fulton is the eldest son of Dr R. V. Fulton, of this city.
