July 23. _ At a meeting of the Repatriation Board it was reported that unemployment was increasing, and it was agreed' to call a conference of loca' bodies to consider' tho matter. It was stated that of those out of work 23 were willing to accept employment at tho Otira tunnel.

Ihe secretary of the Repatriation Department wrote in reply with regard to g:rl clerks employed in tho Bank of New Zealand, quoting extracts from the address by Mr Leauchamp at tho annual meeting of tho bank, and stating that it was not considered necessary to take action in the matter. The reply was classed as " vuncmfltiging the issue <\nd merely glossing the matter over," and it was agreed to make further inquirios locally, and interview Mr V Recce, a director of tho bank, in tno mutter.
