MELBOURNE, July 22. Thomas Walsh, secretary of the Seamen's Union, has been arrested for committinc an offence under the Arbitration Act.

[Walsh's arrest is due to his having, shortly after boirijr fined £100 for inciting to strike, delivered an inflammatory speeari in which he told the seamen that it was "up to thorn" to see that it was unsafe for citizens to be about after 7 p.m.]

UTTERANCES REPUDIATED BY ADELAIDE OFFICIALS.

MELBOURNE, July 22.

(Received July 22, at 10.5 p.m.) Walsh was fined £200 and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. The officials of the Federal Council of the Seamen's Unions consider that Walsh's conviction will further embitter the men. ADELAIDE, July 22. (Received July 22, at 10.5 p.m.) Members of the Seamen's Federation emphatically protest against Walsh's revolutionary statements. They consider that he is willing to sacrifice unionism for notoriety and self-glorification.
