FEMALE IMMIGRATION.
TO Tlfß EDITOK. Sui—As you were kind enough to mention some weeks back, in a local of your paper, the fact that "two memorials were being signed by the ladies and gentlemen of Duncuiu, recommending roe as a fitting person to assist in procuring emigrants from Great Britain," I feel it incumbent on me, as an act ot courtesy, to convey my thanks both to you and those ladies and gentlemen for the compliment paid me, through the same channel. 'I should have done so ere this, but have delayed until all those pages of the memorial that were being signed in the upcountry districts had come into my possession. It is indeed gratifying to me to state to you'that over five hundred signatures of the most respectable and iufliuential persona in Otago have signed it; and whether I obtain the appointment or not, I shall over .retain j a grateful remembrance of the good opinion j and kind wishes of those who have honoured me with their recommendation to the CJovcrnment.—lam, &c, ■; Cauoj.inbC. Howaui). Princes street, August 13tlu
