' For Making Bread, Cakes, and All Kinds of Pastry. fTIHIS Yfrast Powder has now been before the X public of the Australian colonies for the last 18 months, and has met with unprecedented sue cess. The enconium passed upon it by the jurors; of,its class at the late Exhibition (after submitting it, together with the exhibits of three manufacturers, to a severe and searching test), by awarding it the only prize, has been readily acknowledged by every •individual-who uses flour for the home- manufacture of bread. By Virtue of its superior quality it has woa for itself a place in every household—a position, which it will not yield to that imported from foreigii markets. What QuAUHTr of Goid in Quartz is PatAble —T»ie following letter, written by T. A. Read * win, Esq, F.(J.S., to the Mining Journal, will show the vast amount of wealth that must be contained in portions of our gold fieHs which are not now eonsider&l ♦'•payable:"—" Sir—ln May last. I wrote you a line or two about the gold produce' of St. David'a Quartz Lode, in tbe C o^zan Mountain, near Dolgelly, Cdunty Merioneth, I beg joow to make a farther statement of particulars. During the past year, the total distance driveo, sunk, and stopped, was about 38 fathoms. The quantity of auriferous ore crushed and amalgamate^ by two of Berdan's machines, was U9 tons 18 cwlfc, which yielded * 68i)A o^ of fine gold. In addition to this quantity, 6 tous~2 cwt 82 lbs of quartz, containing visible gold, was crushed and amalgamated by Britten's small raachtee*, and yielded 2.373 oz 11 dwt of fine gold ; making a total of gold of 2,884 oz 1 dwt, from 456 torn of ore. Thi« gold realised at the Bank of England, £10,616; £6,825 of which has been distributed amongst the proprif^ors, being at ihe rate of 60 per cent upra the capital invested. I may add that J bave myself ex- , tracked 11 gruns of fine gold from a piece of'tfuartKil I ,< weighing 2ib 13 oz, and not a particle ot^pftw*** \^ discovered in it by a wowerfuLmicroscopo^ i^p«: f*st f **%iiX* makes me think, that 4jj, the ordinary procew 'of ? *&s*, stamping and, wjMhijQt^, ibis feold'could f iiot all have ' I been obtained, and probably ncneofit.
