The Government aud public offices, the JoUSi ft C> ' -»il\ be closed on tllat day, and 'the aval ball, will (ako place in the evening, at the town hag, Chnstclmrch.— Standard, D c. 11 bALSE Rkpoiit.—We learn that the rumours w.nch have bren for some time afloat in Christcharch, t< .he eftect that a carpenter named Robert Hall had been.drowncJ, are without foundation. He lost his way m the bush and remained there for seven days, almost without food, and from exposure aud other causes temporarily lost his reason. It is believed that with care and attention his health may be restored. — ofanciara. Dec. 11.
Fatal Accident.—A. little boy named Mace aged about seven years, was playing on the Govern-! ment Wharf fttLyttfeton, <a few days a S o, when he unfortunately lell oft the pier and was drowned His body was found floating in the water the day subsequent to the one on which the accident occurred — Standard, Dec. 11. The death of a waterman in Port Lyttleton took place this week under the following circumstances : -The unfortunate man, whose name was Tavlor" was conlined temporarily ie Lyttelton Gaol, as he' was suffering at the time from delirium mm tremorc ocensionsd by excessive drinking-. He was placed in a warm bath, when death ensued from a rush of blood to the hQa<X.~Sta?idard, Dec. 11.
