THE NOKOMAI.
We were last evening favored with a view of a private letter received from the Nokomai. The writer, a person upon whose opinions we would be disposed to rely, says':— " In consequence of the recent rushes, the Nokomai is almost deserted, and only about fiftyminers are left in Victoria Gully, who I believe are satisfied to remain and make good wages. On Mr Eees's run there is a mining population of about 1,200, working on the Arrow River and Shotover. Many are working "Homeward Bound" claims ; and lam informed that the average yield is about 1 oz a day per man. Provisions are scarce, but the merchants of Invercargill have several drays on the road; and two boats of about 5 tons each, for conveyance of miners arid provisions up the lake. There has also been a rush between the boundaries of Switzer's and the Company's station, about seven miles from the Wakaia; Eiver. The present population is about 200, earning on an average about $ oz a day per man. The sinking is about ten feet deep, and about eighteen inches of wash dirt 5 the gold is precisely similar to the Dnnstan; and I believe there is ground available for about 2,000. The only provisions, there are two dray load* belonging to Hr Cameron. The majority of the diggers are from the Nokpmal district, and entertain a very high opinion of the uniform return-of the ground.
