THE TOWN BOARD.
I A special meeting of the Town Board was held on Friday afternoon, at the offices. Princes street. AH the members were present. Mr Jenkihson was called to the chair. The Clerk read a letter from Mr David Proudfoot, requesting that, in consequence of the delay occasioned in .the completion of his contract in Rattniy street, an allowance of Is per yard of installing might be made him as compeiu-atiou. The request wa3 declined. It was ordered that L 2 be allowed to Mr Reynold", contractor for the Jetty street urinal, as compensation for loss of time while waiting ia town,for a settlement. THE GAS CONTRACT. . '{ Mr Grvham, pursuant to notice, moved jthat the resolution of.the Board as to the signing of the gas contract be rescinded. Upon a division there appeared— ~ For the motion .. 4 Messrs Mollison, Graham, Jenkiuson," and Kilgour. , Against 5 Messrs Cargill, Switzer, Shand, and Hardy, and D'r Hulme. The motion was therefore negatived. Mr Siiand moved that the contract be read. This was done, and it was approved of, with the exception of the condition that the Hoard sh-ukl within six months' from the date of the commencement of the contract, cause to he erected 150 lamp posts. The contract was approved and signed, upon an undertaking from tie Company that only 100 posts should be required to be erected within the first six months, anu the remainder within the second six months. j A letter was read from Messrs R. E. Martin and i Co., complaining that, while the contractor for Mr Farley had been furnished by the Board with levels oi Princes street, the. aHiitect for their new store had been refused level points for the erection of that building. Tiie Clerk was directed to reply that what had been furnished as to Mr Farley had reference to street levels for road contractors, and not to buUUiu" purposes, Dr Hur,j_[E moved that the best thanks of the Board be given to the oliicera and members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade, for their apfcive e^erjiip'ns in I subJuing the late foe in George gtregt. The motion was unanimously adopted, and the Board adjourned.
