rI he steamship Aldinga, with 106 passengers and a considerable general cai'go, readied i'ort Chalmers at 7 p.m. to-day (Thursday), after making the round to mid from Melbourne with her usual expedition. She left Melbourne at 5 p.m., on Saturday, the 22nd inst, and throughout the passage had iine weather. Had one hour's detention at the Bluff, where Captain M'Lean reports tli3 barque Midas and schooner Dnnodin were lyiug. Off "Wiapapa Point, the steamer Titania was passed, and off Stewart's island, fi three-masted schooner, supposed tobe the Miinrnic Dike, understood to be bound for Invercargill.

The latest departure;; from Melbourne for Ofago are I lie Kate Waters and Mirnmie Dike on the 17th, the French barque, St. Glair, on the 19th ; and the Dutch shipJCommisKiris des Konigs Vander Heyue, on the 21st, the latter vessel taking sheep. The Eliza (Joddiird was entered out on the 21st, and the Nor'"Wester on the 19th. The Benjamin Heape, City of Melbourne, Alinecla, Bessie, Torrent, and Samuel Apploton were on the berth.

Tlie Haven, from Otajyo, arrived at Sydney on the lf>th. and Ihe Warren Goddard at Newcastle on I lie 14th, the Jane at Newcastle on the 16th, the Thames at Sydney on the 17th, and the Lalla Itookh on the 18th. The Ellen Simpson, from New Zealand, reached Newcastle on the 19th, and the Mandarin, lately from Otago to Newcastle, arrived at Melbourne same date.

The schooner Mary Ann, from Auckland, with grain and timber, arrived in the morning, and proceeded direct to town. She sailed on the 16th, and affords us files up to that date. Experienced very heavy weather off Cook's Straits, the sea sweeping the decks, washing away the skylight and other fixtures, and filling her cabins.

The Omeo sailed in the afternoon, meeting the Aldinga a short distance outside the Heads.

The attempt to remove the Victory is now understood t) be abandoned by the Directors cf the Company, but it is expected tiiat an arrangement will be come to if it is not already completed, according to which Mr Scott will undertake her removal on his own account, receiving as his reward half the vessel, if successful, a:id giving the other half to the shareholders. It is a matter of grave question, whether the vessel has not now been so injured, as to render the attempt futile, but Mr Scott, though greatly disappointed by the late unfortunate accident, is still hopeful of success.
