EDUCATION MEETING.

An adjourned meeting of the inhabitants liable to be rated under the Education Ordinance was held in the School-House, on Thursday last, at 7 o'clock, to hear the report of the deputation appointed to wait on the Education Board relative to the removal of Mr Stewart, the present teacher,

Mr J. S. Douglas in the chair,

The Chairman reported that in accordance with the resolutions passed at the last meeting, he presented the memorial, with a copy of the resolutions, to the Education Board, and that the deputation were received with the greatest urbanity by his Honor the Superintendent and the rest of the Board, He Avas happy to say that iilthough it had been represented there was a gieat dissatisfaction in the disirict as to the teaching, yet in less tban five working hours after the memorial was prepared, no less than sixtythree of the parents whose children attended the Bcbool signed the memorial. (Cheers.) This spoke volumes in the teacher's favor, and shewed the course they had taken was right. He mightmention forthe information of the meeting, that Messrs Switzer, Hunter, Chapman, and Brunton were also present, and all, Avith the exception of Mr Brunton, spoke very strongly against Mr Stewart, the teacher. After a most careful and he might say laborious and impartial investigation by the Board, a resolution Avas passed ; he, the Chairman, could not recollect the exact words used, but they Avere something to this effect, — That Mr Stewart be retained in his position as teacher until after the next Midsummer Examination, and he hoped that he (the Superintendent) should hear no more about the matter.

After a very long discussion as to Mr Stev/art being compelled to retract some words he had used in his reply to the Inspector's report, tlie following resolutions were ultimately adopted :— " That the following gentlemen be requested to resign their seats as members of committee ofthe North-East Valley District School, viz. : —Messrs Switzer, Chairman aud Secretary, Hunter, Chapman, nnd Watson, members of committee."

" That the Chairman be requested to write to these gentlemen,' forwarding copy of the resolutions."

A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
