DEATH FROM ASIATIC CHOLERA.

Jt is our painful duty to announce the sudden death of Mr Richard Grove iirlaiu, deputy auditor, who expired yesterday morniajr. A report having gained ground during the day that the deceased had been a victim to Asiatic cholera, we were at the pains tc make enquiry of Dr Hocken.the deceased gentleman's medical attendant. Dr Hocken informs us that the case was undoubtedly one of Asiatic cholera, but that it was hoped and believed that it would prove that the case was sporadic, that is to say, that it was an isolated case of the disease appearing in an individual, and not extending to others. The strictly choleraic symptoms extended over a period of six hours. These were successfully combatted, but were followed by a great collapse. This also was overcome, but returned within a short period, and against this relapse it was impossible to contend. It appears that the deceased gentleman had for about two months previously been suffering from : an attack of diarrhsEa . and this may very probably have had the effect of rendering him peculiarly liable to attack. We are satisfied that there is no cause for alarm hi the fact of this one case of cholera occurring in our midst; but at the same time, it cannot be denied that it illustrates in a very forcible manner the necessity for improved drainage in and about tbe city, aud for a more general attention to sanitary requirements. ~ . .
