The Township of Palmerston is situate at the entrance ofthe Waibemu Valley, iv the neighborhood of Puketapu. about 35 mih'S from Dunedin, 40 from Oamaru, and 8 from Waikouaiti. There is a good' supply of Timber in the neighborhood, and Coal is obtainable at Vulcan Point a distance of 6 miles. The town is intersected by the main road t'> the Dunstan diggings fi-om Waikouaiti, and is situate in the centre of one ofthe finest agricultural districts in thi* Province. Limestone of a superior quality to any ' hitherto obtained, has lately been uiscovered. From ' its situation at the junction of the main North and Sonth roads, with the road to the interior and the T diggings ; it is believed Palmerston will become the centre of a large traffic, and is destined to be one of the chief inland towns of < )tago.
