The Intercolonial Company's fine new steamer Claude Hamilton, from Sydney and the Northern Ports, arrived at Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. She brings a considerable general cargo and ninety passengers. She is commanded by Captain J. D. Gibson. She left Sydney at two p.m. on the IGth, arriving at Nelson at noon on the 22nd inst., having experienced strong variable winds ancl unsettled weather during the passage j she left Nelson at 11.15 on Saturday last, arriving at Picton wharf at midnight; left again 11.15 on Sunday morning; arrived at Wellington on Sunday; arrived at Lyttelton at 3 p.m. on Thursday; lelt Lyttelton at 4.30 yesterday, making the passage a day before her time. Sails for the Bluff on the 3rd. The Claude Hamilton is a new steamer, having been built by C. Mitchell, of Newcastle-upon.Tyne/from whence she was launched about seven months ago. Her fittings are of a first-class order, the saloon being fitted up in a style, which will, we believe, bear favorable comparison with that of any vessel on the New Zealaud coast. Slie has three cabins, which is a convenience for passenger traffic not possessed by any of the other steamers on the coast, having accommodation for forty saloon, fifty second-class, and sixty thirdclass passengers. Her engines and machinery combine every new improvement, and she has a steamcrane on deck. The gear for raising and dropping anchors is also upon an improved principle. A more powerful steamer than the Claudo Hamilton is being constructed for the I.C,R M. Company, and we understand that, upon the return of Captain Gibson with his vessel to Sydney, he returns to England by the first opportunity "for the purpose of superintending her completion. This Vessel will be of 800 tons burthen, and Captain Gibson anticipates returning with her early next year.
