THE OUTRAGE ON THIS POUT CHALMERS ROAD.
(To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Sir,—ln your issue of \est-rdav yon gave an account of an outrage having been committed on the Fort Chalmers-Road, and having seen the occurrence I beg to slate that it was not an unprovoked outrage, as the roadmen were very nearly ridden over by the men on "horseback, and "being 'irritated di-l throw a few stones after them. The horsemen then rode forward for some distauca, and turned back about throe hundred :md fifty yards to where the man was travelling alongside of me. One of them immediately jumped off his horse, and struck, the man twice frith a whip or stick. As to the man hying a stone in his hand is no-, true. The man then grappled with him, and they roiled over the bank, and the roadman immediately interfered, and saved the horseman from being struck, and they were afterwards very iusolently created by the horsemen. If travellers only act as gentlemen while ridine amongst the roadmen, the presence of police here are unnecessary, as they are in geueral too well looked after to interfere with thorn. Yours, &c.j , A PASSER-BY. Port Chalmer's Road Works, October 21, 18G2. .
