ELSON COLLEGE.-The first Election of Scholars will take place on Monday, the 29th September, in the present year. Three Scholarships will be offered for competition, one Foundation Scholarship of the annual value of £30, tenable for two years, to wliich all students at the College, wheresoever born or resident, who shall not have attained the age of eighteen at tbe above date, are admissible; the Alfred Fell Scholarship, of the annual value of £20, tenable for two years, to which all boys under fifteen at the above date are admissible ; and one Foundation Scholarship of £10 for one year, to which students in the junior school only arc admissible. The names of candidates, together with certificates of their age, must be sent in to the Principal at any time not later than the 22nd of September. Candidates must attend in person at the College, on Wednesday, the 24th of September, at 9-30, a.m., to be examined on that and the following days. Subjects of Examination. Candidates for the. first Scholarship will be examined iv Scripture History, Geography, Arithmetic and in writing English from Dictation: those who pass a satisfactory examination in those subjects will bs further examined in— ; -1. Latin and Greek Grammar. 2. Cicero, the Catiline Orations, 1., 11. i 3. Xenophon's Anabasis, Book I. I 4c. Algebra, as far as Quadratic Equations I 5. Euclid, Books 1., 111. 6. Roman History to the end of the Punic wars 7. Greek History to the end of the Persian wars ' 8. English History; 9. French Grammar, translation from English into French, and from French into English. Candidates for the second Scholarship will be examined iv Scripture History, Geography, Arithmetic, writing English from Dictation, Latin Grammar, -Jacob's Latin Reader, Eutrbpius, and English History. The Scholarships will be awarded to the three boys who do best inthe three several examinations.
