The steamship, Gothenburg, arrived at 8 a.m. today, after a very satisfactory passage—five and a half days—having left Melbourne at 6 p.m. on Saturday, the 27th instant. The City of Hobart reached Melbourne on the previous day—unfortunately too late, though only by a few hours, to catch the English mail. Previous to the departure of the Gothenburg, the Omeo was also reported as having arrived in Twofold Bay, short of coals. The Aldiuga's repairs had been completed, and she was intended to sail on Friday, the 3rd. Of the Gothenburg's last trip up, which was rather a protracted one, the Argus reports :—" The Gothenburg, which arrived at 6 p.m., on the 24th, left Dunedin at 8 p.m., on the 13th instant, and called at the Bluff Harbour on the following day. She had a fine run to Swan Island, which she made at 10 p.m. on the 17th. instant. It then came on to blow from the N.W., and increased so fearfully, that she was obliged, when off Curtis Island, to bear up and seek shelter under Hummock Island, where she lay for about twenty hours, until the gale abated. She then put to sea. but shortly afterwards a pale sprung up, when she was obliged to run for Waterloo Bay, where, in company with the steamships, Royal Shepherd and Keera, she remained until Tuesday evening lost, it blowing fearfully throughout that time. The passengers 6peak in the highest terms of the manner in which the ship behaved throughout the heavy gales., during which she has not sustained the slightest accident."

The Storm Bird, which left Wellington on the day after the arrival of the Airedale, arrived in the forenoon, proceeding direct to town. It has all day blown very violently from the S.W., and the steamer traffic in the port has been somewhat interrupted in consequence. The steamer Victoria, after proceeding as far up as Dunedin Bay, found it impossible to proceed with safety in the face of the stormy squalls prevailing ; and the Lady Barkly had also to drop anchor for a time, in the shelter of Black Jack's Point. The Pride of the Yaxra made her usual two passages. Fortunately, no accident lias occurred among the shipping at anchor in the Port.

The ship Japanese, with horses for Otago, sailed from Port Phillip Heads on the 24th ult., and the Bchoqnev Jane on the same date. The barque Bella Marina with 240 passengers cleared out. on the 24th the Sea Nymph on the 25th. and the Warren Goddard and Nor' Wester on the 26th, the latter with 460 pas enters. The ships Greyhound and Samuel Appleton were both entered outwards; also the schooner Midas and the ships Bruce and Southern Cross were advertised as on the berth. The Bengal sailed from Sydney on the 25th for 01 ago, and the Prompt, from Adelaide on the same date. The Ellen, Gfeelong, and Australia, arrived at Newcastle on the 23rd.

A large ship has anchored outside the Heads. It is supposed from appearances to be the Cheviot from the Clyde.

A launch of a steamer for the Otago Bay trade' took place from Messrs White's building yard, at "William stown, on Thursday last. Judging from her lines and draught of water, she -will not disappoint her owners.— Argus. The repairs to the Aldinga having been effected in the most complete manner, her hull has been thoroughly repainted and coated by a preparation patented by Mr Borthwick, of Melbourne, and which on a former occasion has proved mo3t efficacious in resisting the attacks of marine animalcules.— Argus.
