The following resolutions have been adopted by the House of Representatives on the Bth August j-—

1. That tho requirements of the Colony will not be fully satisfied with less than three series of Inter-colonial steam service, via,, between Melbourne and the South, between Auckland and Sydney, and between Cook's Straits and Sydney respectively. 2, Tliat in making any contract to carry out the steam postal service, the General Government shall avail itself of the assistance of the Provincial Governments, and obtain, if possible, their concurrence in the same.

3. That communications should be maintained between the principal Provinces of the Colony . four times a month, and between all the Provinces twice a month, provided that the whole expense of such luter-provincial service does not exceed twenty thousand pounds per annum. In accordance with, these resolutions it is pro posed to establish the steam postal service of tlie Colsny, Inter-colonial and Inter-provincial, alter Ist January, 1863, as nearly as possible in accordance with the accompanying time-table. In case of its being found impracticable to construct service No. 2, it is proposed to maintain* the comminnicaiion by one steamer per month between Cook's Straits and Sydney, and to establish communication by: means of two steamers per month between Otago and Melbourne, for the purpose of carrying the inward, and homeward European mail.
