The Board may cause all existing public pumps, wells, streams, conduits, and aqueducts, used for the gratuitous supply of water to the inhabitants, to be coutinu.«d and tor that purpose may, if they shall

think fit, construct any number of cisterns, pomps, wells, conduifs, ami works. ' 40.
