The Board may cause all existing public pumps, wells, streams, conduits, and aqueducts, used for the gratuitous supply of water to the inhabitants, to be coutinu.«d and tor that purpose may, if they shall

think fit, construct any number of cisterns, pomps, wells, conduifs, ami works. ' 40. In no case shall any forfeiture, penalty, or fine imposed in pursuance of this Ordinance, or of any bye-law to be made .%'tveable to tho provisions of this Ordinance in that behalf, exceed for any ox,ti oftence, the sum of one hundred pounda.
