The Sydney Morning Herald of August 4 says :—

" There has been very little business doing In our markets during the week ; but as holders of gooite are not forcing sales, prices of most articles are without any alteration. The fluctuations, consequently, have been so few and unimportant, that it is quite unnecessary to give a full report. Flour is steady. Adelaide is quoted at £14 10s. to £i 5 10s., and Marjrarey's and IJart's brands ar* 1 worth Mm latter figure. Wheat, 6s. 3d. In liquids there has been very little doing. A few small lots of MarteH's brandy have been sold at 13s. Geneva is not so firm, owing to the large quantity lately arrived. Teas are firmer, and sales of good congous have been made at full rates. Sugara are dull of sale, and price nominal. Rice is firm, and is held for higher rates. Patna is quoted at £25 to £26 per ton. Coffee is n]*o firm, and a superior sample of Manilla has been fold at KM. per lb. in bond; medium quality, 9£d. per lb. In oilman's stores, candles, salt, &c, there is no alteration to notice. <» On Wednesday^ Messrs. L. E.Threlkeld and Co. held a largo sale of groceries and oilmen's stores. There was a goodt attendance of the trade, who showed every inclination to bid freely. A considerable quantity of Mauritius and Java sugars were placed at a slight improvement on recent quotations, and several invoices of oilmen's sterns, fix Shand, at full mci-ket rates. The same firm report having sola this day, invoices of white lead, realising, from £30. to £32 ss.* per ton; together with, copper and wire nails, and other hardware, at satisfactory prices. " At Messrs. W. Dean and Co. 's produce sale, held on the Ist instant, eighteen casks of tallow were sold, at L 29 ft*, to L3B Is. per ton.
