"OREQUENT instances having occurred of DeJ? ■ * sei-tion from Her Majesty's Sea and Land Forces' in this Colony, Notice is hereby given, that the most rigorous proceedings will be taken against any person enticing away, harboring, concealing, or employing Deserters. The enactments relat-ingf to the above offence are subjoiaed for information. FRANCIS D. FENTON, Assistant Law Officer. CLAUSES OP IMPERIAL ACTS RELATING TO DESERTERS. Naval Desbrtioh. 10 and 11 Viet., chap. 62, sec. 11. And be it enacted,-That every person who, by •vrortls or any other means whatsoever, shall persuade any person in Her Majesty's Navy-to desert, or improperly absent himself from his duty, shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty pounds for every such act; and every person who skill assist or procure any •person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or improperly absent hiioself from his duty ; or shall conceal employ, or continue to employ any person belonging to Her Majesty's Navy, who shall be a deserter, or improperly absent from his duty, knowing him to be such a desertor, or so improperly absent, shall forfeit aad pay the sum of thirty pounds for every such assistance, procurement, concealment, employment, or continuing of employment, as aforesaid.'' MARINE DeSEKTIOK. 21 Viet., cap. 7, sec. 64. " Any person^who shall, in any part of Her Majesy's dominions, by words or any other means whatsoever, directly or indirectly, procure any Marine to desert; or snail by words or by any other means whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Marine to desert; and any person who, knowing that Marine is about to desert, shall aid or assist him in deserting; or, knowing any Marine to be a deserter, «hall conceal :. Terms :—For the usual course of education for the three upper classes, £9 per annum; for the three lower classes, £8 per annum; Drawing and Music, extra. Board and residence (including washing), £50 per annum, payable quarterly in advance. Pupils, not boarders, may dino at the College, at a charge of 16s. per month. Every pupil must be upwards of nine years of age, able to read fluently, and write from dictation, and know the first four rules of arithmetic. Further particulars to be learnt from the Secretary, Mr. Braithwaite, to whom applications are to be addressed. •VTELSON- COLLEGE.— The. first Election ot AM Scholars will take place on Monday, the 29th September, in the present year. Three Scholarships will be offered for competition one Foundation Scholarship of the annual value of £80, tenable for two years, to which all students at the College, wheresoever born or resident, who shall not have attained the ag« of eighteen at the abovedate, are admissible; the, Alfred Fell Scholarship, of the annual value of £20, tenable for two years, to which all boys under fifteen at the above date are admissible; and one Foundation Scholarship of £10 for one year, to which students in the junior school only are admissible. ' The names of candidates, together with certificates o their age, must be sent in to the Principal at any time not later than the 22nd of September. Candidates must-attend in person at the College, on Wednesday, the 24th of September, at 9*30, a. in., to be examined on that and the following days. Subjects of Examination. Candidates for the first Scholarship will be ex amined in Scripture History, Geography, Arithmetic, and in writing English from Dictation: those who pass a satisfactory "examination in those subjects will b© further examined in— : ' ; 1.
