A MAN, named THOMAS M'CLAY, has been missing Kini-e tho l'Hh of July hut, 0:1 which day he was met near tin: Hawkesbury Bush by two men, named Junes and M'Gilvray, whu re^u-sted him to show them the way to the "above HuJi; he left with them for that purpose, and has not since been heard of. M'Clay i.s well known in the Province as an old resident, and has a wife and family residing at Waikouaiti ; he is described as j};) years of ago, 5 fret 10 inches in height, stout build, sallow complexion, with dark hair and eyes, small black whiskers slightly grey ; generally wears afd.irk shooting coat and cab-biigy-tree hat. lit is known to be a hard drinker, and lit is not improbable that he may be found at some bush public house, or way side* shanty in the neighborhood of Oamaru or the 'Wnit'iki. Meantime the two men, Jones and M'Gilvray, are in custody • mid any information of M-'Olay will be thankfully received by tho Commissioner of Police. TO ARCHITECTS. JT^HE Provincial Government of Canterbury, New X Zealand, being about to erect a LUNATIC ASYLUM on Section No. lf>9, on the Lincoln Road, about 2;{- mill's from Christclnireli, invite Architects to submit designs for such edifice. The building to bo capable of accommodating 50 patients—say 83 males and 17 females, -with all necessary olh'ces: bath-rooms, reception-rooms, and Surgeon-Superintendent's residence; and to be so arranged that a portion could be erected, complete in itself, for the reception of half the above number of atients The design to comprise the modern improvements ■ usually found in such buildings, with careiul arrangements for classification, light, warmth, ventilation, sanitary arrangements, and efficient security and Hipervision. The material used is left to he suggestion of the irehitects, —stone foundation being in any case indispensable, and well raised above the ground-line. The drawings required will be a black plan, showing sewage and water drains; a plan of each floor, and a roof plan, at least two elevations and two sections—all drawn to a scale of 8 feet to an inclij also, n perspective view finished in outline—Sepia, ndian Ink, or Pencil—no view in colours will be a«iinL>ible. Thedrawings to be accompanied by a specification of a general character, and an approximate estimate of the cost of the whole ; and the part proposed to be first built. The Provincial Government offers the .sums of £100 and £i>o respectively, for the lest and second best j csigns, which, in the opinion of their advisers may be most worthy of such premiums. Designs receiving premiums to become the property of the Government. In formation can be obtained on application in riting, of the Provincial architects, at their offices* Stoae Buildings, Gloucester-street, ChrLstchureh; and esigns to be sfnt on or before the Ist day of Sepmber next, addressed to the Provincial Secretory.
