# The steamship Aldinga anticipated the expected time of her arrival by reaching Port Chalmeis between seven and eight o'clock, on Sunday evening. She left Melbourne at 3 p.m. on Tuestlay, -l)th ult, and completed the passage to Otago Heads in five days and four hours. She experienced tine weather all the passage, with occasional light easterly winds. At 1 a m., on the 3rd instant, she passed the Oothenfcnrg, 20 miles west of the Solamb-r. The Aldinga will leave early, so as to reach Melbourne in time sufficient to bringdown the English mail, as she has on several occasions lately done. The Daniel Watson is reported as having reached Newcastle from Otago on the 2oth ultimo, and the Colchester on tbe 27th. The William Watson sailed fen- Melbourne from the same port on the 20lh. The St. Jean, barque, stilled from Sydney for Mauritius oa tin 20th. and the Vortigern from Melbourne for Manilla on the same day. The brig Victor was noted to sail from Melbourne for Ot.tgo on the 31st July, and the ship Ringdove on the"7th August tor Otago direct—but to" land passengers also at Auckland, should sudicient inducement, offer. Very severe weather seems to havo been experienced on the Victorian co;ist during the last week of July. Tho papers of Uie 28th report: —" All the vessels wliich arrived yesterday and to-day report having experienced very bad weather lately, and not oue of them Ins escaped from sustaniing damage more or les*. The Sydney Griffiths, from Newcastle, when off the Promontory, shipped a sea, which carried away her foiv-top-masfc, maiu-top-gallant-niost, and jib-boom. A Dutch barque, namo unknown, shipptd a tea two day:? a^>, which swept the long boat over-board, carrying away the jib-boom and doing other damages. The ship Kxodus. lost her jib-booni. The William Miskin, steamer, put. back, and proceeded on to Melbourne to repair damages! The schoomr Caroline arrived on Saturday evening with the signal of distress Hying; on ascertaining itV cause, it was found that she had no anchors on hoard to bring up with, havinir'partod both her chains a fewdays ago at Belfast; her fore-top-gallant mast was also gone. The Customs' boat too'; off anchors to her. She went up to Melbourne on Sun 'ny morning.
