The barque Metaris, with coals from Newcastle, made the Heads, on Thursday, and reached the an-chorage-ground on Friday morningl. She has made a passage of sixteen days from Newcastle, and at the date of'her departure, the barque Time and Truth and the thret-masted schooner Louisa were both under the shoots, receiving cargoes for this port. They were expected to be in readiness for sea two days afterwards. Capt. Luekcy reports that -when the Metaris sailed, there were no signs of the A. A. Company commencing' work, which continued interrupted by the strike. In anticipation of an outbreak between the old hands and and the new arrivals expected to work the mines, the authorities had adopted the precaution of swearing in all the older ■ miners as special constables. During the passage hither, the Metaris experienced fine light weather. The Clutlin, which reached Port Chalmers this forenoon, is from Auckland, with timber and a few passengers. Brings later dates than the Albatross, which arrived on Tuesday, having left Auckland' on the 17th. The local papers report that the Messina, the Kobert Small, and the Bhmdell, so long overdue from London, have not yet made their appearance. The Messina is now 154 days out, the Robert Small 127, and the Blundell 129. A large vessel was observed far outside Tiri Tin, but she was not signalled. There are hopes entertained that it may be one of the overdue English ships. The American ship Mary Merrill and the brig Tyra, both of which went ashore in Wellington during the late storm, have been sold as they lie. No appearance at Wellington of the Blanche, out from London since the 7th January. The Kauri had arrived at Hawkes Bay from Auckland, after a most tempestuous passage, and reports having seennothing of the missing Pole Star. The barque Indus has been moored in a situation parallel to the hulk Industry, it being the intention to use her temporarily as a coal-ship for the Melbourne steamers, which Capt. M'Kinnon has contracted to supply with coals at this port. The Lord "Worsley sailed at mid-dny. Major Richardson, Superintendent of Otago, Dr. Merizies, Superintendent of Southland, and Capt. Vine Hall are among her passengers!
