LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Messrs. Driver, Maclean, ■&.. Co., Provincial Sale-Yards, report:— The supply; of tat stock durin-- the past week was far short of .our requirements. Consequentlj', transactions have been very limited. We have advices: of several small lots of cattle and sheep which' will he in the market during next week. All very good 'quality; and we hope that in future we shall have more regular weekly supplies, which we feel sonvinced would operate more advantageously both tor buyer and seller than as at present—over-stocked one week, and short supplied the next. _ Fat Cattle.—Our quotations oi last week have been fully maintained, and all the cattle in the yards found ready buyers. . We disposed of a lot of 30 head mixed cows and bullocks, at an average of £24 10s.; those were very prime and heavy weights. We quote for middling quality, £18 to £20 ; 'inferior do., £12 to £15. The lot per W. 13. Dean, irom were sold privately at (we understand) 6id. per lb. killed. . . . Store Cattle.—We have had nuraero.is inquiries for {rood lots, hut have effected few sales. - CtLVEfi.—None offered—in great demand. Kat Siikki'.—But few in the yards, and those offered of inferior quality. Prime wethers much inquired for, and would realize 6^l. to 7d. per Jb. Store Shekf.-—lnquired for (maiden ewes particular]}). None on hand. Homes.—The demand for useful draugnt horses and weight-carrying hackneys has been better this week than for some months past, and those brought forward s-old readily at very satisfactory prices, quite ' equal to last quotation?. Working Bullocks. —None offered, much inquired for. Driver, Maclean & Co. Dunedin, 2lst Juno, 1862. . o AUCKLAND. There have been several clearing sales dining the past month, at which large amounts of Roods have been disposed of, and, as will be seen by the annexed reports, at satisfactory rates. Real property continues to be brought into the market, and not only-readily changes hands, but moves off at excellent prices. We have had two arrivals, the bnqs Gazelle and Margaret Thomson, both from Adelaide, with wheat: We have also to note that wheat, and other grain, has come in more freely from our own coast. In exports of colonial produce, there has been more activity during last May than for a great while past; COO tons of potatoes, 1-1 tons onions; 75,000 feet timber, 62 spar», 10' rickers, 209 hides, RSOO lbs. wool, 13 tuns black, and 7 Inns sperm oil, having been shipped by six vessels to Sydney, and one to Melbourne.
The timber trade continues to be prosecuted with vigor to the oilier provinces, the quantity shipped during the month exceeding 230,000 feet. All the sawing stations arc in full work. New and improved machinery is continually arriving, and new mills are beinn brought into operation with the utmost dispatch. The "quantity of timber taken off for home consumption at the ■ present time is very large.— Xeiv Zealundcr.
