The schooner Prompt, from Auckland, arrived at Port Chalmers on Thursday evening, after lying for some time at the Heads. She left Auckland on the 18th, and from that time experienced most violent weather, gale haying succeeded gnle from the W. and S.W., with unusual frequency and strength. In the ■worst of it the Prompt lost a great deal of her canvas, and had her foremast and main boom carried away. For the safety of the vessel and crew, Captain Garson. had also to submit to the loss of hi 3 deck cargo, consisting of timber, with which the Prompt is laden. She proceeds to town to discharge, the small mail she brought having been ,forwaided. •
The Akbar and the Bella Vista both left to-day (Friday) in tow of the Samson. The Akbar, which was one of our recent arrivals from London, is bound for China. The schooner Colonist is another vessel which cleared from the Heads to-day.
Several trivial collisions have occurred in- port during the prevalence of the late strong winds. The W. B. Dean, brig, ran foul of the schooner Norah, and carried away a portion of her bulwarks forward, and the Pioneer, by coming in contact with the small steamer Planet, did some damage to her bows and head gear. •■ The City of Hobart is ascertained to have had her propeller damaged by taking the ground on Thursday, while being piloted up from the Heads, two small pieces having been knocked off the fans. To repair the damage,' it may be necessary for the vessel to go on the slip on her. return to Melbourne. She is advertised to sail thence on the 17th inst.
The Pioneer, from Dunedin, arrived at Kaitongrata on the st_h June, and on the following day cleared out for Wycaiera. "Considerable anxiety,'' says the Oeelong Advertiser, "is felt for the safety of the brig North Star, -which left Hobart Town on the 7th May, and has not since been heard of. ' A brig, supposed to bo the North Star, was reported by the Harriette Nathan on her last trip at anchor under Swan Island ; but even if the supposition as to the identity of the vessel he correct, it is not easy to account for her nonarrival Ions; ere this."
