Dean, schooner, from Melbourne I Valiant, brig, from Melbourne Fox, schooner, from Sydney The brig A raliant, with a general cargo from Melbourne, reached the Heads on Tuesday afternoon, and came up tliis morning, proceeding directly to town, ; where she will discharge. The Valiant made a rapid passage from Port Philip, having left on tho Ist instant, three days later than our last dates from Melbourne, but Captain Brodie does not happen to have any Melbourne files on board. During the passage he experienced strong southerly gales. Passed, on Thursday last, a steamship; supposed to be the Omeo. The schooner Fox, reported yesterday as at the Heads, has arrived, and proceeded to town. As reported, she is from Sydney, , with coals*and timber. During the passage encountered some heavy weather, and a coh'tiuuiince" of strong f winds.'; Only vessels sighted were a barque and ;a" schqoper, names unknown. The Cincinnati, from- Newcastle/ : with coals, which has lain since Monday at the Heads, has also come up to the,port.. She brings a cargo of 600 tons.of coals, along with Mr. Scott's appliances forthe removal of the Victory. She left Newcastle on the 24th, and .has Sydney, dates.up to the ,22nd inst; /■ The.', Vorfigern,,which .has, been moored at the Heads'since'.herreturn from,Moerald,..is reported : to sail this 'evening.""" *' . . '• It appears that there was some one on board the Lloyd's Herald when she drove from her moorings at tbe Heads. After some hours' trouble, she was got off'without any damage. - - The Colonist, a handy little schooner, built for the • colonial coasting trade, and which recently arrived here for sale, has not found a rjurchaser, and proceeds to one of the Australian ports. Some of the Port Chalmers boats and boatmen.have been engaged by Messrs. Cobb and Co. to'convey passengers across Lake Waihola_, during the' winter months,, in connection.with theircoaches. Yesterday,. a suitable whaleboat was taken to,town,to be conveyed overland to'Waihola, and others are expected to follow to accommodate the traffic, under tlie direction of H. Bush, waterman. i ; 7 The Lyttelton took a considerable number of passengers down.to Waikouaiti, en route to the Highlay diggings, and returned' to-day with about, an equal number.; i Considerable'inconvenience is described as being-felt by those arriving' at-Waikouaiti, in consequence of the want of. any places of-accomodation: or refreshment at the landing place. Some-tents-had been put up among the sanclikhmmocks,; but in consequence of the occupants,:an some cases, retailing liquors, they have received orders from the police ito remove. There is a considerable discrepancy between the accounts given by those who have visited the diggings— -La-tlle mean-time the tendency seems to. be. to quit the groundj'ttkougb the weather lhas lately been very favourable. Several -who have gone down to AVaikouaiti lately,; however, are men who .will give the ground a thorough trial,- and an accurate idea of its value wUljbe; obtained .by, the comniencemeflt of the^ppngi-iio-yt vniii >.'> !;-: ThetSxdney papers reportfjhe arrival,:at;Newcastle,< n Sunday, the lSth ult., "of the three-masted chooner Louisa.
