The Evelina Rutter, schooner, from Melbourne, arrived off the Heads on Friday, but, during the short gale which ensued, was driven off the land and to the northward. She made the anchorage again on Saturday, and at midnight on Sunday reached Port Chalmers. She has had rather a lengthy passage, 22 days, having encouutered a succession of jmles and heavy weather. She brings only a few pas*99.ngers. The Storm Bird, s.s., from Wellington and Lyttelton, arrived at a late hour on Sunday evening, and has since proceeded to town. She brings a freight of 30 head of cattle, chiefly milch cows,-along with a "quantity of northern produce. She has papers from Wellington to the 4th, and Lyttelton to the 7th, containin.c no particular items of intelligence. The Whitehaven Lass, which has arrived at the Heads from London, is a barque of about 300 tons, and has made a passage of 125 days or thereabouts; brings n general cargo, but no passengers. The other vessels at the' Heads are the Cincinnati and the Tamar, the former being coal-laden, from Newcastle, N.S.W.
The L'oyd's Herald, a small craft which was lying at the Heads outward bound, drove from her moorings during the gale of this morning, and has got ashore on the beach immediately below the pilot station. There was no one on board, and-the pilots are now employed in kedging her oft, which they will probably succeed in doing, as the wind has fallen and the tides are high.
(by latbh despatch.) The Tsunar schooner, reported at the Heads, has reached Port Chalmers, and will proceed next tide to Sunedin. She has made rather a quick passage, having left on the Ist of June, brines files of Hobart Town papers up to the 31st ult, which contain Melbourne news two days later than that brought by the Aldinga on her last trip. The Whitehaven Lass, from London, has also reached the anchorage ground at Port Chalmers. She has made" a very lengthy passage—about. 130 dayshaving been very_ unfortunate in the vuather she experienced ever since her departure from England. From the Isle of Wight to the latitude of the northeast trade she encountered a succession of adverse winds, and after reaching the parallel of Australia she met with weather which greatly retarded her progress. She brings no passengers. The manifest of her cargo, a considerable proportion of which consists of bonded stores, will appear when the vessel is entered at the custom-house. The Cincinnati, barqne, has made a passage of fourteen days from Newcastle. Sir. Scott, engineer, is a passenger, by her, and brings along with him a number of the appliances which he proposes using in floating1 the Victory from the strand at Wickcliffe Bay. The rest of the materials.and machinery he expects by next steamer from Sydney, and the work effloatingthe vessel will be commenced forthwith. The Lloyds Herald, by the exertion of the pilots. Jmh been got off the beach. . -
