TUAPEKA. To the Editor of the DAILY TIMES.

Sir, —Some thirteen or fourteen weeks ago an article appeared in your coluins. bended " Good News for the Diggers,'' purporting that in the course of a short time a Hospital would ba opened on these diggiugs, and that lignite, by tli3 order of Gtoverimcnt, should be sold at prime cost to all purchasers. This announcement awakened a feelins of gratitude in the hearts of the mining population, for the kind aud considerate attention paid to our wants by the rulers of the land, but I am sorry to say the tardy fulfilment of their ephemeral good intentions has obliterated the origiunl good sentiment, creating one of distrust and Eoorn'for the evident neglect they have displayed, in not completing long ere this, the friendly work commenced with such good intentions. The Hospital building has been completed snms weeks, so far as outward appearances indicate. Why thci'j is not the edifice appropriated to iti proper use ? The shortness of funds, no doubt, will be urged as an excuse, but without much reality, for lam person idly well acquainted with'a gentleman who called on Mr. Croker, offmn.'; to raise funds by another appeal to the ever iw.ly sympathetic digger. I fesl convinced it would have bsen responded to with success sufficient, together with a little aid from Government. to have furni»heJ their noble Institution with all appliances and comforts necessary to alleviate and relieve the sufferings of the many sick who have be-3n for wesks lying on a miserable stretcher, protected only from the severe,.frosty, inclement weather by a still more wretched tsiit. Whereas, hod this house of relief been opened, accompanied ■ with proper at tendance, most of the poor helpless creatures would be qnitis recovered, or in a fair state for so doing. s.iviug some from their last, Jong sleep of premature dentli. '"'"..

Hiving been a sufferer myself, my sympathies are deeply alive to the amelioration of'the. wants of the unfortunate, >vhioh will account • for my soliciting your valuable aid and the use of your paper, so as to expedite the opening of the building originally designed for a Hospital, and not a home for mice. I am, sir, Yours, most respectfully, , W. P. J. Junslst, 1862.,
