The White Swan, s.s., arrived at, Port Chalmers on Tuesday afternoon, from Lytielton. She left that port at"2 p.m. on Monday, and next, morning was; oft' the Heads, thus making the run in the short j space of 15 hours, but, owing" to the intense darkness and fog which prevailed, if was impossible to approach the Heads, and when daylight appeared the fog had not cleared away, so that the captain wa* obliged to liana about under low steam till 4 o'clock p.m., before he could get any trace of the headland. On her upward trip to Auckland the White Swan Hteameii to Lyttelton in IS hours, tlienee to ..Napier in 20 hours, and thence to Auckland in 47 hours, iind her downward trips were equally successful. Cant Harper reports having- encountered a severe gale on Wednesday, between Cape Pellissier and I Wellington, the barometer ranging so low as at 28.50. We are"also informed that at Auckland, two tribes of Mnories had a pit-lied battle, several being killed and wounded ou each side, ami that the fight was to be resumed, the cause of fie rupture being an old feud about land. Upwards of one thousand of the Wuikati tribe had come to the river Thames on the pretence of fishing. Various conjectures were afloat as to tl:e cause of their visit, the'prevailing one being that they came to protect the gold which is said to have been found on Maori lands, at Coromandel. Samples of this gold tound in soft stone were exhibited in Auckland. Captain Harper was the bearer of nu important despatch to His Excellency the Governor, from the Chief Secretary, which was delivered to the Governor at Wellington, who almost immediately took his departure in the Harrier for Auckland. Captain Harper is al*o the bearer of a special despatch to His Honor the Superintendent of Otago. The "White Swan sails for the Bluff on Thursday morning, if not earlier. The Aiding!!, *.$-, has made a very short stay on this occasion, Captain M'Lcan being determined to push on, to bring down the English mail, and return •with the Otago correspondence for the Melbourne mailofthe2lstb. Shesailedatdusk, this (Tuesday)evening, a few minutes after the arrival of the While Swan, being enabled, by the promptitude of Captain Harper and the Custom-house officials, to take with her the mails brought on from the north by that vessel. The small steamer Undine, reported by the schooner Rebecca as being at Akaroa, cm her way hence from Nelson, arrived on "Monday, and proceeded to town. It is understood she is to be employed in the port or some similar local trade. The Rainbow steamer, from Otago, for Sydney, returned to Wellington on the 21st May, after an ineffectual attempt to get out against a S.E. wind. A second attempt having likewise failed, she brought up in Woraer's Bay, and sailed again a few days nfterThe ship Zealandia, with assisted immigrants from London, is reported by the Lyttelton papers as bavin" arrived there on the 22nd ult. Two deaths had occurred on the voyage, but the passengers were all well on arrival. The Airedale sailed for Wellington on the 20th, and on the following day the Fanny A. Garriques arrived from Wellington with stock. The Auckland papers report the arrival of the three-masted schooner Vistula at the Manakau, after 15 days'passage from Otago. The barque Lanarkshire, Captain western, from Cardiff, Wales, arrived at Wellington on Thursday, the Bth instant, after a passage of 134 days. Her cargo consists of 800 tons of coals for the 1.C.1t.M. Company. . . ' _ . By a misprint in our impression of Tuesday, the name of the winning boat in the second-class sailing match at Port Chalmers on Alonday was made to lead Zambia, instead of Zenobia, which is the boat owned by Soutbgato and Manou.
