TASMANIA.
(From the Cornwall Chronicle, May 21.)
The man Flanders, who lias been examined on the charge of murdering the child at Bagdad, and who will, without doubt, be committed for trial, \yas arrested some time since for the murder of Alice Hughes, the child who was found so brutally murdered at Bridgewater, and was only discharged because he could not he positively identified. Since the prisoner's apprehension o\\ the presentjeharge, the police have grounds for belief, from certain information received by them, and from articles found on the prisoner, that Flanders was the murderer of the child Alice Hughes at Bridgewater. Sjnue that time, however, the prisoner has been at Pore Arthur under sentence, which did not expire till shortly before the present fearful murder, when the articles referred to were found on him. The Imperial Government have advised Her Majesty to withhold the lloyal assent from the act of the colonial Parliament for the reduction of the salaries and allowances of the Governor of Tasmania, The act was considered to involve a. breash of faith, so for as it was intended to affect the position of his Excellency Colonel Gore Browne, whose appointment to the government of Tasmania was dated jjvior to the enactment of the measure. We understand that it is not his Esaallouey's intention to avail himself of the point thus raised by the tyiesn's Ministers. Colonel Browne has intinuited his wish to abide by the reduced provisions of the Salaries Act.
