FREQUENT instances having occmred of De- j sertion from Her Majesty's Sea and Land Forces in this Colony, t Notice is hereby given, that the most rigorous proceedings will be taken against any porson enticing ■„ away, harboring, concealing, or employing Deserters. Naval Desertion. 10 and 11 Vict., chap. 62, sec. 11.' " And be it enacted, That every person who, by , words or any "other means whatsoever, shall persuade any person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or im- . properly absent himself" from his duty, shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty pounds for every such . act; and every person who shall assist or procure any 1 person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or impro- l. perly absent himself from his duty; or shall conceal, employ, or continue to employ any person belonging a to Her Majesty's Navy, who shall be a deserter, or l improperly absent from his duty, knowing him to be such a deserter, or so improperly absent, shall forfeit r and pay the sum of thirty pounds for every such as- * sistance, procurement, concealment, employment, or continuing of employment, as aforesaid.'' -Marine Desertion. f 21 Vict., cap. 7; sec. 64. _ t ■■•" Any person who shall, in any part of Her Majes- 1 ty's dominions, by words or any other means whatso- t ever, directly or indirectly, procure any Marine to 1 deßert; or shall by words ior by .any other means i whatsoever," attempt to procure or persuade any Marine to desert; and any person who, knowing that ( Marine is about to desert, shall aid or assist him in . deserting; or, knowing any Marine to be a deserter, skill conceal eucli deserter,, or aid or assist such Hesertcr in concealing himself, or aid or assist in hi* rescue, shall be deemed guilty Of a misdemeanor, and shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to be punished by fine or imprisonment, or both, as the . ""* Firstn-The necessity for a Main Sludge Channel from-Wetherstone's to the Main Creek, and the cutting of a Storm-water Channel through Gabriel's and Monroe's Gully. To accomplish these most necessary objects, the Board desire, on the part of the miners, the assistance of the Government. Seoond—The desirability of organising and . despatching prospecting parties for the discovery of , new gold fields. Third —That the Board desire to sec every branch of mining carried on simultaneously, and would, therefore, suggest to His Honor the propriety of instructing the Resident Commissioner that, in granting sites for puddling machines, he cause the said machines to be placed on the edge or bank of the gully, in order that they may not interfere with any other method of working the ground.
