I Engineer and Projector: Stei>llEN HUTCniSON, C. E. Secretary and Promoter : Martin S_ol_, IT iB proposed to establish this Company for tho purpose of procuring for the inhabitants of Dunedin an ample supply of Gas, 'of great purity and illuriiinating power, at a reasonable rate. ■ The safety, cleanliness, and economy, consequent on the use of Gas, are advantages too. well-known to require lengthened comment, and the success universally attending the operations' of Gas Companies throughout the world forms a guarantee of- the profitable results which the Shareholders may rely on securing for their capital in this investment. The town of Dunedin presents facilities for the profitable establishment of this undertaking never previously realised" by any Gas Company in the southern hemisphere, as tlic concentrated character of the town, the nature of the soil, &c, will enable an unusually limited capital to suffice for carrying out the works, in addition to which the Company will be enabled to avoid the expense and serious delay of importing the plant from Great Britain, the projector having at his ■ command the necessary machinery, of the most im- | proved character, so that it may be confidently expected that the works and mains will bein operation iv a period of twelve weeks from the time of com" plcting the necessary preliminaries connected with the formation of the Company. It must be obvious that an important branch of the Company's business will consist of supplying public lamps with Gas; as at the present moment this necessary protection to life arid property is one of the most serious disadvantages which the inhabitants ol Dunedin have to encounter, and the general feeling is so strongly in. favor of the immediate introduction of Gas, that a large and profitable business will at once attend the manufacturing operations of this Company. The liberal support and co-operation already received by the projector, and the number of shares applied for, leaves no doubt th.it the necessary capital will be speedily subscribed. STEPHEN HUTCHISON, C.E. Engineer and Projector. Late Engineer-in-Chief to the. City of Melbourne ' Gas and Coke Company ; Engineer : in-Chief to the Plymouth aud Devonport Gas Companies ; Acting Engineer at the London Gas Works, &c.
