TO THE ELECTORS OF THE TOWN OF DUNEDIN. /~*i ENTLEMEN —It-was my intention to offer niyXJC self as a candidate at the election for a member to represent you at the General Assembly, which takes place on the inst. I frankly acknowledge that I thought my services considering1 my official position, might be useful, but the revised Land liill for the Province, which I liad hoped to support in the House, not having received the sanction of the Council, and no other having been.substituted, I confess my views, are somewhat altered. ■ . ; •■• The late changes in the Executive Council, by which the Provincial Secretary, and Treasurer wLlbe on duty at Wellington, the absence of the Provincial Auditor, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, the difficulties which present themselves in carrying on the business of the Government should I be absent, together with the decided step, of an advanced character, lately taken on a question which must most materially nfiect the interests of the Province, and which has received such hearty approval, but which I am not prepared to its fullest extent at the present moment to adopt, all combine to induce in me the belief that my post of duty during the next few months will be at Dunedin, and not at Wellington. j Should "you, however, think otherwise, and ,the difficulties which I see mound me. be removable, 1 shall not hesitate a moment in placing my services at your disposal should you be inclined to confer on' me the honor of representing you at' the' General Assembly. ■■ ■ . ; J. RICHARDSON, Superintendent, May 12, 186S J
