EXPENSES OF TROOPS IN NEW ZEALAND.

On the 13th March, JMr. Adderloy brought the subject of the expenses of troops in New Zealand before the IToudc of Commons, and an'important debute ensued, in the course of which Mr. Fortescuc (Under Secretary for the Colonies) stilted that the new plan of Native policy of Sir George Grey had beon received only a, few days before, and that the whole object of it was not to increase expenditure, but to decrease the risk of future wars. .He also said that the Colonial Secretary had uddressed a rigid enquiry to Sir George Grey, asking whether New Zealand was prepared to carry the plan into effect, and also what efforts would be made to pay the expenses of tjie lute war. Her Majesty's Government bad not committed themselves in the smallest degree to any responsibility as to the plan, or the civil or military expenditure it might ' .entail.
