ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

THE MINING BOARD. To the Editor of the Or\GO Daily Times. Sik—Your.coi-respondent, "Pick and Shovel/ scorns to me tirbe one of the many growlers who generally glory in making ridiculous, by anonymous scribbling, every opportunity the miners get to manage by local self-sovernment those affairs which are best known and easiest arranged by the men selected for thnt purpose. jj JHnd your " Pick and Shovel" informey sent you a o.ipy of the minutes of the first meeting of the Mining Board, his love of scandal would have been deferred to another occasion. However, it may ba that " Pick imd Shovel" aimß nt the exalted position of becoming your Mining Board reporter in future, a consitmation most devoutly wished for by you should you be able to spare three or four'colvraus of your journal to the details of Mining Board proceedings. Yonv correspondent seems perfectly ignorant of the fact thnt the Mining Board can elect a chairman whenever they require one; and also, that they can adjourn from time to time, and from place to place, wherever they can get accommodation in the district for which, they have been elected ; at least, until they get some building wliiih they can call their own. Special 'meetings need only be called when the Board adjourns for a longer period than fourteen days, should any important matter" require them to do so. Public bodies can only be bound by the confirmed minutes of their proceedings; and, when we find that Mr.. G. Brodie was elected by the whole of the other members, the miners need not apprehend the slightest danger from the future proceedings of their local Board, nor yet tremble at the impartial reports of any anonymous scribbler who may stealthily pick or shovel themselves amongst their betters. Yours truly, - D. Guovu.
