The following letter is publbhed for general inforpiatipn ju tlie Provincial Government Gazette of May:— Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 3rd April, 1802. Sin, —I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Honor's letter, dated the 20tJ> ultimo, forwarding, for the consideration of His Excellency the Governor, the tender of the services, under the uew Volunteer Regulations, of a number of the inhabitants of Dunedin, end in reply to inform you that His Excellency accepts, with great pleasure, these services, and fully appreciates the public spirit which has led to their offer.

'Jjje government are anxious in every way to give practical effect tP the fishes pf the inhabitants of Otggo to form^ Volunteer Corps, and if it be desired that moretlian twd companies' (the present number allotted'WtOtago) should.be formed, they will be disposed to^give such proposal favorable consideration. One hundred rifles will be sent down to (Hasp by he steamer on the Bth inst.

Relying on your public spirit nnd on your ■willingness to aid the Volunteer movement among your fellow-citizens, I transmit by thus mail for your acceptance Commission (with the rank of Major) &3 a commanding-officer of Militia and Volunteers.
