FIRE IN THE NORTH-EAST VALLEY.
About 12 o'clock' last night, the town was startled by the sounding, of the fire bell, and immediately afterwards of the bugle at the military barracks. For some time an-uncertainty prevailed as to the locality of the fire, but soon it was discovered that it was in the N.B. Valley and numbers of people started in that direction, but fcefore they could reach the spot the fire was out. The fire took place in a house occupied by Mrs. Adams, and situate some distance to the left of ■ the- Valley-road. The alarm was sent into town by the patrol, but some of the police had reached the spot before the bell was rung. The particulars as nearly as we can gather, are as follows :—Mrs. Adams was going to bed when some papers caught fire, and before "she could do anything to extinguish them the flames spread to the curtains, and the house itself was quickly in a blaze. Mrs. Adams got her children out unhurt, but was herself slightly burnt.' The house being built of fern, all liope, of saving it trai fntile, and all that could be done was to pull down the burning portion. In the discharge, of this service some of the police got rather badly burnt about the hands.
