TOWN BOARD

The quarterly meeting of the Town Board was held . yesterday afternoon, at the Board Office, Trinceastreet. Present: Memrs. Switzer, CargilJ, Jenkinsou, , Shand, and Mollison. Mr. Svritzer took the chair at a quarter to 4 o'clock. The Olebk. read the minutes of the preceding meet' ing, which were confirmed. A letter from Mr. Norton, relative to the moving of earthwork in part of his premises was Tend, and the Clerk was instructed to apply to Mr. Barnes, the oontractor, on the subject. A letter from his Honor the Superintendent, roupecting an application made for a loan by ttie-Board, requesting the Board to furnish his Honor with statement* of anticipated revenue and liabilities. ' An application from B. Evans, to out firewood at Pelichet Bay was granted, with ceitain restrictions as to keeping the road lino clear, nnd moving off scrub. A communication waa read from Mr. Howorth, Provincial Solicitor/, in respect to certaiu.fees demanded by him for psrasing leases. Mr. Bejd directed the attention of the Board to the necessity forgiving footpath notices to the owners of property in Kattray and Maclaggan-streets. The committee"proposed that lamps be placed : 1 at the angle of the swamp road ; 1 at corner, near Mr. Napier's, Princes-street; 1 near the Town Board Office; 1 near. .Mn : Jones's store, Jetty-street; 1 corner of Bank of New South Wales; 1 between the Shakspeare and the Bank of New South Wales; .1, on the bank in the Cutting ; 1 in Stewart-street, near the octagon ; 1 near Adams's store in the Octagon ; 1 in Stewart-street, at the "end of Castle-street; 1 in George-street, near, Mr. Loggie's; 1 corner of Frederick arid Great King-streets. On the motion of Mr. Cargill, the report was adopted, and the Clerk was instructed to purchase the requisite lamps and appliances. _ ■ The Claim of Mr. Q Green for compensation m respect to excavations in the Cutting, was ordered to lie over until next meeting. Tenders were opened for the. following works: — BRIDCJB OVKR WATER LEITH. In this case the Clerk was of opinion that the whole of the tenders were excessive, and the plan of the bridge on too extensive a scale.
