LIGHTS AT r NIGHT.
To the Editor of the Otago Daily Times.
" Sir,—'i'he extreme difficulty, "not unattended.'.with danger, .which a pedestrian, encounters,* when traversing' the/public thoroughfares of YD.unedirii after dusk, and p"af Cieidarly after rain,' constrains me to bring the matter of town-lights .thus prominently under notice; and I, with others, sincerely hopet hat the proper authorities will speedily'inake.sqine provision in that direction.' Until regular lamps' can be erected at equal distances, it would be.a great convenience to " the eommiinity to place lanterns in those situations where, at ..present, palpable darkness absolutely reigns at night-timeJ The winter months are rapidly approaching, -. and the Town -. Board would confer a 'public boon by ordering temporary lights to be stationed in the principal streets at intervals of, pay, fifty yards apart No great expanse' would be incurred by this arrangement, until something better can be done. ,',.-.'.. .."..- "■"' ' Faithfully yours, . . " Times" Bepouter. • Dunedin, 20th' March, 1862. :
