South Australian Wheat.—The following reference to the wheat shown at the Exhibition in Melbourne In3t year and transmitted to England is from the Field. The first prize was awarded to a boutli Australian sample weighing; 68A lbs-, not BSA lbs., as stated by the Editor of the Field :— "South Australian" Wheat.—We have been favored, through Mr. Edward Wilson, of Melbourne, with three samples of prize Australian wheat. These are the actual samples shown at the agricultural meeting at Melbourne; and, if we may judge from these, the colony uiusfr at no distant date become famous for the production of this grain. Two of the saimilfs are grown in Victoria, the other in boutii Australia. The first prizes of the Victoria wheat weighs 67i lbs., and is a fine specimen of the white kind, short and full, and has been exhibited in excellent condition. The second prize sample is inferior, but certainly both are remarkable for their appearance and quality generally. The South Australian, ■which is a first-prize sample, weighs 88y lbs. It is lamer in size, and somewhat darker in color, and would be found difficultto match anywhere. Itis our intention to test these in this country, and we hope to be able to'report favorably of them, although our more variable and moist climate may rather be adverse to their growth and yield.''
