SECRETARY, GEO. GARSIDE. It is estimated that the cost of putting the ship afloat will be £2000 Amount payable to present proprietors in cash for purchase of Vessel 1500 Do. by Bills fordo 1500 Fitting out and contingencies 2000 I . £7000 nnillS Company has been formed for the purpose X of takinsr the steam-ship " Victory" oil the beach, and re-fitting her for sea. The "Victory" is a screw-steamer of 1000 tons "toss register, and fitted with engines of 180 horsepower. She is known as one of the strongest and fastest vessels in Australia. She now lies on the beach at high-water mark, and on sand, there being no rocks or dangers in the way of taking her ofF. _ She is not strained or injured in nny way. Her engines are in perfect workimr order; and, if she were got off, which Mr. James""Scott (the Engineer) states may be easily accomplished at moderate expense, she might be fitted for sea at short notice, and at a trifling outlay. Mr. James Scott, of Newcastle, N.S.W., proprietor of the patent slip there, and well-known for his ingenious and successful accomplishment of similar under? takings, proposes to lift the ship and convey her int.o deep water by means of a hydraulic apparatus (now in use in England), for which he possesses a patent Mr. Scott estimates, the expense of taking the ship off. it £2000. ' The " Victory" was valued, at the time she was rnn ashore, at from £25,000 to £30,000 ; and, in the opinion of competent judges, would be worth the same sum if successfully got afloat again aud refitted "Yhe'hull ot the "Victory" was purchased by hci present proprietors, who offer to hand her over to the Company upon the following terms:—£looo to be paid clown on giving possession, and £1500 m bills. It will be for the shareholders to determine whether the Company shall sell the vessel and realize their profit, or make arrangements to run her. The rapid increase of the New Zealand trade has given greatly increased employment to the colonial steamers; and, owiii" to the recent loss of several, such vessels are at the present time greatly in demand and enhanced in value. The "Victory" is well-known ns a vessel eminently suited, from her size and speed, for the intercolonial trade, in which she might be employed with great advantage to the province, and large dweot profit to the proprietors. A limited number of shores are still open, applications for which must be made at the ofhee of 11. B. Martin & Co., on or before the 17th March next on which clay a meeting of the Company will take place, and the final allotment of shares will be mad©. Dunedin, Feb. 27., 1862.
