ENGIKEKH, JAMES SCOTT. SEOUETARV, GEO. GARSIDE. It is estimated that the cost of putting the ship afloat will be £2000 Amount payable to present proprietors in cash for purchase of Vessel 1500 Do. by Bills fordo 1500 Fitting out and contingencies 2000 £7000 THIS Company has been formed for the purpose of taking the steam-ship " Victory" off the beach, and re-fittiii(r her for sea. The " Victory " is a screw-steamer of 1000 tons cross register, and fitted with eimines of 160 horsepower. She is known as one ot the strongest and fastest vessels in Australia. She now lies on the beach at hMi-water mark, and on sand, there beiiijr no rocks or dangers in Hie way of taking her off. She is not strained or injured in any way. Her engines are in perfect working order; and, if she were got oil, which Mr. James f-cott (the Engineer) states may be easily accomplished at moderate expense, she might be fitted for sea at short notice, and at a trifling outlay. Mr. James Scott, of Newcastle, N.S.W., proprietor of the patent slip there, nml well-known for his ingenious and successful accomplishment of similar undertakings, proposes to lift the ship and convey her into deep water by means of a hydraulic apparatus (now in use iv England), for which he possesses a patent Mr. Scott estimates the expense of taking the ship oit. at £2000. . . The "Victory" was valued, at the tune she was rim ashore, at from £2.5,000 to £30,000 ; and, in the opinion of competent judges, would bq worth the same sum if successfully got afloat again and refitted °Vlie l'hull ot the " Victory" was purchased by her present proprietors, who ofjer to hand her over to tlie Company upon the following terms:—£lsoo to he paid down on giving possession, and £1500 in bills. It will be for the shareholders to determine whether the Company shall sell the vessel and realize their profit, or make arrangements to run her. The rapul increase of the New Zealand trade has Riven greatly increased employment to the colonial steamers; and, owing to the recent loss of several, such vessels are at the present, time greatly in demand and enhanced m value. The "Victory" is. well-known as a vessel eminently suited, from her size and speed, for the intercolonial trade, in which she might be emp toyed with great advantage to the province, and large direct nroflt to the proprietors. .„ ~ A limited number of shares.&ro still applications for which must be made at the orace of 11. B. M'irliii & Co., on or before the 17th March next on which day a meeting of the Company will take place, aud the final allotment of shares will be made. Dunedin, Feb. 27,1862.
