Tub Regatta.—The Annual llegatta will be highly successful, w"e have little doubt, should the weather prove propitious. Our readers can judge with considerable accuracy of the amount of sport from the programme that appears in our advertising columns; and we atv; confident that every effort will lie made by the committee to render the proceedings of the day as generally acceptable as possible. The '■' Clutha," Captain Anderson, will be the flag-ship. We were at one period afraid that, the canoe race would bo a failure, owing to the want of funds; but from private efforts the prizes offered by the regatta committee will bo largely supplemented, and we may expect a very exciting spectacle in the ennoo race of Wednesday. There are six large war canoes in the adjoining bays, and not fewer than ten, and po*sibiy twelve, will join in the contest. One of these canoes, lying in-George's Bay, will require sixty men to man her Should twelve canoes enter for the race, there wiil be 500 natives engaged. It has been suggested to have a war dance after the race ; and no doubt this could bfi- easily managed by a few gentlemen acquainted with "the leading chiefs using thsir influence. A war dance by so man/natives would now be a rare sight in Auckland.— Southern Cross.
