THE LATE ACCIDENT AT THE MOLYNEUX
FERRY. To the Editor of ihe Otago Dailt Times.
Sm, —Have the borlics of the two uiifortunote men who were lately drowned fit tlia Molyneux Ferry been recovered ? If so, has there been a coroner's inquest 1 I fancy the answer to tho latter question will be a negative one. Permit me, therefore, by your aid, to call the attention of the authorities to the necessity, if possible, of instituting an inquiry into the accident, as there is an impression that had competent persons been employed, and more than one boat been kept by the ferryman, both lives might, with ease, have been saved, 'if this be so, the verdict of the jury would lead to a trial in a higher court, and the consequence would be that life and property would be safer than it now is at the Molyneux Ferry. I would state that the two Ip3t men, after the boat had been upset, clung to the cable belonging to the punt till compelled to relinquish their hold through exhaustion, and so perished in the sight of many persons who were unable to render the slightest aid, because there was not a single other boat belonging to the establishment at the Molyneux Ferry. I am, Sir, H.
