WHITAHUNA DEEP SINKING ASSOCIATION.

■-■•'"-'• '[communicated^] In accordance with the way in which " The Waitatah'jna Deep Sinking Association " separated on their last meeting, on the 2nd inst., the committee met on last evening (Monday) at the Dart Hotel. The committee is composed of three storekeepers and four practical miners; on the part of the storekeepers, Doctor AY. Samuels, Mr. \V. C. Hodges, Doctor Burrowes ; on the miners' side, Messrs. John Moran, James Connelly, John S. Foot, and James' Gamble. The hon. secretary Mr. Monk, cailed on the .treasurer, Mr AAlse, to state what money he had received since their last meeting, which Mr. AAlse did, and stated to the chairman and committee that by the time they should again meet, he would be able to double the amount.

A great number of the miners attended, and it is gratifying to see that they are taking some interest in tlieir own welfare, when the Government is not doing so. After the private business was transacted by the committee, the chairman addressed the assembly of miners, and requested of them to put their shoulders to the wheel and roll it along, by giving tlieir subscriptions, whicli a great many of them did. Mr. Wise (who also acted on the committee in the absence of Mr Hodges in town) said that he was very thankful to the gentlemen who assisted him in collecting the subscriptions, and requested that Messrs. Moran, Connelly, and Foot do see tlieir friends before the next meeting, which will- be on Wednesday next, and raise more funds. At the conclusion, Mr Hillhouse moved that Mr Moran tlo take the chair to return Doctor Samuels, Mr. AVise.the treasurer, and Mr. Monk, the secretary, thanks for the interest that they had taken in it. This was seconded by Mr. Thos. Aliern, and carried.

Mr. Moran thanked the Chairman, Mr. AAlse, and Mr. Monk, and concluded by calling for three cheers for " The AVaitahuna Deep Sinking Association," which was responded to by all assembled with the utmost enthusiasm.
