TASMANIA.
By the Zoe, from Hobart Town, we have papers to Dec. 30. There is little news of interest to New Zealand residents. Mr. Kennerley had been elected Mayor of Hobart Town on the 28th. We take the following market "report from the Mercury of Dec. 30 : — During the whole of the week there has been very little business transacted and prices have remained unchanged. There has been a moderate demand for most descriptions of colonial produce, but only for immediate consumption, and in imported goods scarcely anything has been done. Flour, &c—Flour is firm at £13 to .£l4 per ton. Demand fair, for local consumption. Wheat of first quality is enquired for ; —the rate is 4s. 9d. to ss. 3d. for a prime sample, but none is offering. Bran is Is. 2d. to Is. 4d. per bushel. Oats axu Barley.—Oats 3s. 9d. to 4s. Barley Gs. to Gs. Cd. ; both nominal. Hay.—There is very little old hay brought in to market. New is from £4 10s. to £s;—pressed hay £G. Straw £2 10s. Potatoes. —Old potatoes are now unsaleable. New are coming forward plentifully, at from ss. to Gs. Gd. per cwt. Timber.—The market is without alteration.
