THE GOLD FIELDS.

ANOTHER LARGE ESCORT.

RUSH? TO WEATHERSTON's GULLY

return of the blue mountain expedition.

LYNCHING OF PERKINS

By news received late last night we learn that" the Escort brings down from Gabriel's Gully this time 13,520 ounces. The amount from Waitahuna will probably swell the .Escort to the same quantity, if not to a larger one than last week.

The rush to Weatherston's is increasing, and is likely to become very large. The fiat opposite the gully has been marked out, and it is expected gold will be found there.; A gentleman who called on us last night told us he had seen 4 ozs. washed but of one dish, from a hole 40 to 50 feet deep.

The Blue Mountain rush has at,last entirely exploded. .- The miners who accompanied Perkins found that he was hoaxing them, and they determined to try him by Judge and Jury. Thirteen men formed themselves into a jury, with a judge to preside, and the decision resulted in Perkins getting his head shaved and receiving two dozen lashes on the bare back from a w rhip. This castigation was tb have been repeated every morning only that Mounted Constable Dalgleish came up, and the miners gave Perkins into his custody on the charge of obtaining money on false pretences. He will be brought up at the Police Court under the Vagrant Act, and it is to be hoped will be properly rewarded for the imposition he attempted to practise on the miners, who had the folly to believe in him.
